Despite the challenges documented above, a great sense of optimism remains for the prospect of finally developing Haiti. The earthquake has highlighted the shortcomings of the NGO community, international policies on Haiti and that of the Haitian government in the development process. Haiti’s civil society more acutely understands its role and has adjusted to meet both immediate and future needs. Prior to the January earthquake, the need specific civil society organization to consistently advance the issues of relevance to the Haitian community. MFH represents a broad and growing coalition of individuals organized to fill the void that existed prior to January 12.
